Robert Reedy

Coffeyville –

Robert D. Reedy, 84, of rural Coffeyville, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at his home near Angola. 

He was born March 29, 1926 southwest of Altamont, KS to Forest and Ione (Carrico) Reedy.  He grew up in the Edna and Angola area, attended school at Richland School north of Angola.

On November 28, 1948 he married Neva Harrison at the Methodist Parsonage in Edna, KS.  Following their marriage they made their home in the Angola area where Robert farmed and was a cattleman.

Robert was a member of the Angola United Methodist Church, served 19 years as a board member of Twin Valley Electric Cooperative, was a member of the Richland Grange serving two years as Master, and was a 4-H leader for several years.  He loved spending time working on his farm and working with cattle.

Survivors include his wife, Neva of the home; one son, Steve Reedy of rural Coffeyville; one daughter, Kristi Reedy of rural Coffeyville; one sister, Phyllis June Payne of Bloomfield, NM; four grandchildren, Preston Hills, Brian Reedy and wife Lori, Adam Reedy, and Jayme Russell and husband Rick; and four great-grandchildren, Lucas Russell, Kolton Hall, Danielle Reedy, and Katie DeTienne.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and twin sister, Roberta Reedy.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Angola United Methodist Church with Pastor Diane Massey of the First Presbyterian Church in Coffeyville officiating.  Burial will be in the Lake Creek Cemetery west of Bartlett, KS.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.  The family will receive friends at the Reedy home.

Dorothy E. Hull

Sedan –

Dorothy E. Hull, age 67, passed away Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan.

She was born on April 16, 1943 to John and Bessie (Lumley) Hull in Peru, Kansas.  She graduated from Peru High School.  After High School she moved to Hays, Kansas where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching from Fort Hays State University.  She was a junior high and senior high teacher and coach in Hugoton and Liberal schools for many years until her retirement in 2005.  She then moved back to Sedan in 2005 and lived here for the past five years.

She was enjoyed being involved with the Sedan Senior Citizens and the Council on Aging.  She loved her cats, feeding the birds, sports, and her many collections.

She is survived by one sister, Pat and husband Duane Burger of Sedan, Kansas and several other family members.

She was preceded in death by her brother Jim Hull and her parents.

The family has chosen cremation and there are no services planned at this time.

Sedan –

Betty J. Nelson, age 87, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas.

She was born January 1, 1923 in Tonkawa, Oklahoma to Merle A. and Marvel L. (Mount) Talbott.  She attended Eagle Community School thru the eighth grade and then graduating from Yale High School in Yale, Oklahoma.  She was married to Merle Nelson for many years until he preceded her in death.

She worked as a clerk in department stores for many years until her retirement.

She moved to Sedan from Perry, Oklahoma on August 23, 1996.  She has been a resident of Pleasant Valley Manor for the past year.

She was a member of the Disciples of Christ Christian Church in Perry, Oklahoma.

She is survived by one daughter; Andrea and husband Ed John of Colorado, one son; Carl Shumaker, three sisters; Nancy Ross of Dunham Springs, Louisiana, Carolyn Edwards of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Donna Thrasher of Houston, Texas, three brothers; Charles Talbott of Pilot, North Carolina, John Talbott of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and David Talbott of Odessa, Texas, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, two brothers, and one sister.

Family and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2010 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan, Kansas.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan with visitation following at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2010 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan, Kansas.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the Lawson Cemetery in Yale, Oklahoma with Chaplain Mike Graham of the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating.

The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.

Sedan –

Goldie Maxine Taylor passed way November 17, 2010 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas.  She was 90 years of age.  She was born on October 27, 1920 in the Ames Chapel Neighborhood, to John H. and Olive Miller Bryan.  At an early age she moved to Moline, Kansas where she was living until moving to Sedan, Kansas.  She attended Moline schools and graduated in 1938.  She was a homemaker, mother, and she also worked for many businesses in Moline and enjoyed her work and making friends.  She was a member of the Moline Baptist Church and attended regularly as long as her health permitted.

On June 19, 1958 she married Fred Taylor at Sedan, Kansas.  They made their home in Moline where they spent several years until moving to Sedan.

She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, three brothers, and her parents.

She is survived by two daughters; Shirley and husband Walter Wigton of Sedan, Kansas and Sharon Johnson of Fredonia, Kansas; one sister; Sarah Mae Byard of Howard, Kansas;  five grandsons and eight great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2010 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan, Kansas.

Church services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the Moline Baptist Church in Moline, Kansas with Pastor Jim Bob Thompson officiating.  Burial will follow at the Moline Cemetery.

Sarah Drum

Coffeyville –

Sarah Elaine Drum, 80, of Caney, was welcomed home in “the Arms of Jesus” Tuesday, November 16, 2010.

Sarah Elaine Rogers was born January 3, 1930 in Niotaze, KS to Reuben Edgar and Sarah Ruby (Guier) Rogers.  She attended school in Niotaze, Cherryvale and Havana moving to Caney her sophomore year, graduating from Caney High School in 1948.  Sarah accepted the Lord at the age of 16 in the First Baptist Church in Caney.

On November 23, 1952 she married Floyd Edward Drum, he preceded her in death on February 20, 1983.

Sarah enjoyed hobbies of ceramics and canvas painting.  Her favorite hours were spent doing work for Jesus.  She loved going to River of Life Church where she was a member and pray for others.  When her health kept her from attending church she said she could still pray.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Jay and husband Phillip of Caney;  her son, Kim Drum and wife Patty of Caney; two brothers, Reuben Dewaine “Bud” Rogers of Marshall, TX, and Norman Rogers of Newton, KS; three grandchildren, Phil Jay and wife Mendy of Pittsburg, Jason Jay and wife Sandra of Kansas City, Sarah Clark and James Young of Niotaze; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Michael Clark of Niotaze, and Elijah and Ellyanna Jay of Pittsburg.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010 in Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney with Rev. Dan DeWitt of the First Baptist Church in Caney officiating.  Cremation has taken place. 

The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Caney.

Mary Alice Hoskins

Mary Alice Hoskins

(January 1, 1923 – November 10, 2010)

Mary Alice Hoskins youngest child of Eddie Clarence and Mary Augusta (Myers) Puckett passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at Pleasant Valley Manor. She was born January 1, 1923 in Elgin, and moved with her family to Sedan in 1929.

She attended local schools and graduated from Sedan High School in 1942. She was in band and drum corps at Sedan High school and taught drum lessons while attending there. After graduation she moved to Wichita to work. There she learned the upholstery trade and worked at Innes Dept Store doing furniture and later Johnny Boklage automotive shop where she like doing interior of autos and trucks.

She met Richard Warren Null in a small diner not far from where she worked and on July 31, 1948 was married in Wichita, Kansas. To this union one daughter Freida Marie was born.  They later divorced in 1953. She returned to Sedan with her daughter in1954 and went to work at the Sedan City Hospital as a Nurses Aid. She worked at this position for 15 years when health reasons was going to force her to quit when they developed the Ward Clerk position and ask her to write the program and train staff for the position. She was the pioneer of this at the hospital and to this day some of the programs she wrote are in effect. She worked another 15 years as a Ward Clerk retiring in 1984.

In 1956 she met Alfred Eugene Hoskins and on May 15, 1958 they were married in Sedan, Kansas. Together they made a life in Sedan and he also worked at the Sedan Hospital. They enjoyed doing crafts together and attending several craft shows a year selling things they made. They were married 49 years when he passed away on May 17, 2007.

Upon Mary’s retirement she was free to do things she enjoyed best, working on family history with her daughter Freida, quilting, crocheting, reading which she dearly loved to do and crafts. As her health failed she moved to Pleasant Valley Manor and lived where she found many friends she had known all her life. She truly loved all the staff there and spoke of them often to her family.

She is survived by her daughter Freida Wells and husband Leon of Grenola, Ks; step-sons Bruce Hoskins Sr. and wife LaVerne of Houston, Texas, Glenn Hoskins and wife Veronica of Baytown Texas, grandson Robert Null and wife Paula of EL Dorado, Kansas. Step-grandchildren, Patsy, Bruce Jr., Brandy, Priscilla, Marcia, Renee and Briyawana; 7 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Family and Friends may call on Friday, November 12, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Sedan.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, Ks. Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 2404 W. 8th Coffeyville, KS 67337.

Coffeyville –

Leona Mae Moore, 86, of rural Wann, OK, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at her home.

She was born June 13, 1924 at Wann, OK, to Charlie and Susie (Huckby) Claypool.  Leona grew up and attended school in the Wann area, graduating from Wann High School.

On July 25, 1944 she married Milton Moore at Wann, OK.  Following their marriage they made their home in rural Wann.  Leona was employed for many years at Medicalodge East in Coffeyville.  Mr. Moore preceded her in death on June 27, 2003.

Leona was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, rural Wann, OK.  She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Moore and wife Karen, Kevin Moore and wife Judy, and Larry Moore and wife Linda all of Wann, OK; two daughters, Bonnie James and husband Mike of Caney, and Jody Longpine and husband Dale of Topeka; two sisters, Betty Martin and Mary Perkins both of Wann, OK; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Susie Claypool; one brother, Jack Claypool; two sisters, Bonnie Lumm, and Edith Anderson; and one granddaughter, Christy Moore.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010, at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Rt.1, Wann, OK, with Rev. Robert Glasgow officiating.  Burial will be in the Robbins Cemetery west of Coffeyville.

Friends may call on Friday, November 12, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.  The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ruth Quinn

Coffeyville –

Ruth Quinn, 63, of Coffeyville, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010, at her home.

She was born July 31, 1947 in Tennessee to Fred Parker and Pearl Bunch. She grew up and attended school in Tennessee.

Ruth moved to California where she lived for many years and attended Porterville College. She moved to Coffeyville in 1996.

Ruth was a Certified Nurse’s Aide and a Certified Medication Aide.  When she wasn’t working she enjoyed painting ceramics.

Survivors include one son, Billy Ray Delamar, Jr. of California, three daughters, Lisa Renee Larson and Sheri Lynn Delamar both of California, and Cindy Marie Enloe of Coffeyville; four brothers, Mitchell Parker, Bobby Quarter, Thurman Parker, and Ronald Parker all of Tennessee; one sister, Lois Parker of Tennessee; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, ones brother, and one sister.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be at 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2010. Call the funeral home at (620) 251-6008 for address.

Coffeyville –

Keith George Jackson, 83, of rural Coffeyville, passed away Saturday, November 6, at his home.

He was born May 28, 1927 at Somerset, Pennsylvania to Charles and Sopha (Diller) Jackson.  Mr. Jackson grew up and received his education in Pennsylvania.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy.

In 1954 he married Dorothy Hupp.  Following their marriage they made their home in West Virginia.  She preceded him in death.

Mr. Jackson was a truck driver, for Star Craft and Ruan.

He was a member of the World Wide Church of God, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include four daughters, Sandra Burgess of Florida, Diane Smith of Coffeyville, Linda Hall of Las Vegas, NV, and Debbie Shaddick of West Virginia.; three brothers, Jim Lyons, Pete Lyons and Ronnie Lyons all of Berlin, PA; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Clifford Paul and two granddaughters.

Cremation has taken place and inurnment will take place at a later date in West Virginia.

Sedan –

Weltha Mae McGregor, age 90, of Sedan, Kansas passed away Friday morning, November 5, 2010 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan, Kansas.

She was born March 2, 1920 in Moore Prairie, west of Sedan, Kansas to William and Mabel (Post) Wendt. She attended and graduated from Sedan High School. She married Gerald W. Mills and he preceded her in death in 1958.  She later married Herman Roecker and he preceded her in death.  She later married John McGregor on September 7, 1991 in Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2010.

She worked as an Office Manager for Union Gas for over twenty years until her retirement.

She was a life-long resident of Sedan, Kansas.  She was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star.  She enjoyed her cats, crafts, games and her grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Keller and her husband Doug of Independence, Missouri; one half sister, Lela Tyson of Wichita, Kansas; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her three husbands and one sister.

Family and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2010 at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home of Sedan, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan, Kansas with Reverend Gene DeWitt and Pastor John Warring officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.
